Römerquelle premium mineral water is now available in 100% recycled 1.5 liter PET bottles
Bratislava, 29 April 2021 - Coca-Cola is introducing a new size of its Römerquelle natural mineral water to the entire Slovak market. It will now be available in popular 1.5-liter bottles across the entire market. Because the sustainability of packaging is a key issue for the company, Römerquelle water will be packed in PET bottles made of 100% recycled material, called rPET.
Coca-Cola HBC and The Coca-Cola Company are thus pursuing the fulfillment of joint commitments in sustainability and circularity in the area of packaging materials, based on the worldwide World Without Waste initiative Following the recent introduction of a 100% recycled PET bottle for its Natural mineral water brand on the Czech market, it is now expanding this concept to the Römerquelle premium mineral water brand. Like the 0.5 liter bottles, the new 1.5-liter bottle will also be made of rPET. This term is used to label bottles that are made of 100% recycled PET material from old bottles.
“Römerquelle water in 100 % rPET bottles is an example of how we ensure circularity in our beverage packaging; it is made of recycled bottles and can be fully recycled again,” says Michal Čubrík, External Relations Manager for Coca-Cola HBC CZ and SK, adding: “Sustainability and responsibility for packaging are key issues for Coca-Cola HBC. Our commitments and objectives in this area are highly ambitious.”
“Coca-Cola had undertaken to use at least 50% recycled material in its entire portfolio of plastic bottles by 2025. Römerquelle water is our leader, but we are increasing the share of recycled materials in other products as well. Already, all of our packagings is 100% recyclable,” says Veronika Němcová, Communications and Sustainability Director at Coca-Cola CZ and SK.
Römerquelle natural mineral water is sourced 400 meters below the surface and is approximately 5,300 years old, which guarantees its one-hundred-percent purity and superb quality. In addition to its balanced mineral content with a high share of calcium and magnesium and low share of sodium, it is ideal for everyday consumption and has a pleasant, neutral flavor. The Römerquelle brand was established as a family business in 1965. It is extracted and bottled in the Austrian town of Edelstal (Burgenland), where it has been approved for public therapeutic use since 1962. It joined the Coca-Cola family in 2003.
